About the School of Law 
Birmingham City Law SchoolBirmingham City University Law School is a major centre for legal education and training and has a long history of providing high quality law courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Our outstanding team of professional staff have extensive legal practice experience and our strong links with professional practice and organisations enable us to deliver a range of professionally-relevant legal courses which offer students valuable practical experience.

Our emphasis on studying law in practice is supported by the excellent teaching facilities within the School, in particular our two replica courtrooms (Crown and Magistrates) equipped with audio-visual facilities. We also offer an active student-led Law Society and highly respected and very successful student Mooting Society which, over the last several years, has consistently reached the finals of national mooting competitions. In the past 10 years, we have beaten eight of the elite Russell Group of universities, including Cambridge, Oxford, Leicester and Warwick.

LLM/PgCert/PgDip International Business Law (full-time and part-time)
Our LLM International Business Law meets the current demand for specialist knowledge and skills in the rapidly expanding fields of international corporate and business law. It provides you with the opportunity to explore, in-depth, the legal regulation of the world of international business. Academically rigorous, our LLM will expose you to a practical real-world application of the law.

• Enhance your knowledge in the growth area of international corporate and business law
• Accredited for Continuing Professional Development purposes by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board
• Two start dates (September & January) with full and part-time study options.

LLM/PgDip International Human Rights (full-time and part-time)
You will study the issues of human rights, both in the UK and internationally, and look closely at the conflict between national and international standards.

USA pathway: The opportunity to undertake an internship in America, assisting on death row trials and related issues. You will also be involved in the preparation of an ‘Amicus’ brief, arguing a point of human rights law for submission to a US court.

International pathway: An opportunity for you to take part in a work placement with human rights organisations around the world. A core element of this pathway is an independent project where you will develop a human rights activity in a community setting.

• Two start dates (September & January), offering more flexibility to students.
• A three month internship in America, working in an American legal firm or Public Defender’s Office.
• Opportunities to work directly with human rights organisations around the world.
• The opportunity to be creative through your own individual human rights project.

LLM Entry Requirements

A UK Bachelors Degree in law (e.g. LLB), or UK Bachelors Degree which includes law as a substantial component (e.g. BA Law and Management); or an equivalent overseas qualification. 

Equivalent qualifications include:

• Bangladesh - completion of a four-year LLB average 50% from a Bangladesh public university or average 55% from a Bangladesh private university rated good by UGC
• India - completion of an LLB average 55% (or average 50% from a five-star university)
• Pakistan - completion of an LLB average 55%
• Sri Lanka - completion of a four-year LLB average 55%

And
English Language requirement for international students whose first language is not English: IELTS 6.5, or equivalent.

India
Following changes to the English Language requirements introduced by the UKBA during 2011, we can now accept the Standard 12th CBSE with an average score of 65% as being equivalent to IELTS 6.5. We may be able to accept Standard 12th Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and the CISCE - details will be published on our website.
