Introduction
The LLM programme at the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong aims to provide an intensive study of issues and practices relating to Chinese and Comparative Law, International Economic Law, Common Law and Maritime and Transportation Law. Students may also choose to follow a general course of study.

Video-link Lectures by Renowned Professors
At our Law School, you can receive the same education as in the leading law schools in the world. In Semester A 2011-12, the School invited Professor Michael Reisman, Myres S McDougal Professor of International Law, Yale Law School, to teach a course entitled “Selected Problems in International Investment Law” through video-link facilities. In Semester B 2011-12, we also invited Professor Ingeborg Schwenzer, Professor of University of Basel, Switzerland, to teach “International Commercial Contracts and Uniform Sales Law” through video-link. In future semesters, the School will endeavour to continue this practice.

Cooperation with University of Vienna
In November 2011, CityU School of Law signed an unprecedented cooperation agreement with University of Vienna, to jointly organize a dual LLM programme, in which selected students will be able to obtain LLM degree from CityU as well as LL.M. in Legal Theory from Vienna University, upon the completion of their studies for one semester in each University. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the civil law tradition, the latest developments in comparative legal discourse, and current trends in legal theory and jurisprudence, all within the context of European law, besides the professional law knowledge acquired in Hong Kong.

Cooperation with Supreme People’s Court of China and Columbia Law School
CityU School of Law has signed an exclusive agreement with the National Judges College of the Supreme People’s Court of China and Columbia Law School to provide advanced legal education to Chinese judges. Under the agreement, 30 Chinese judges will be selected to study the LLM programme at CityU every year. During their study at CityU, they will have the opportunity to study at Columbia Law School for one month, which includes a study trip to Washington D.C. to visit the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Department of Justice.

Together with the Chinese judge students, a number of students from the LLM and JD programmes went to study at the Columbia Law School. This arrangement has now become a unique feature of the law programmes of the School.

Bonus Features

The programme is a GLOBAL GATEWAY® programme, which provides students with an international edge to their legal education by offering them the possibility of exchange programme and dual LLM degree from leading international law schools under the auspices of cooperative agreements with City University of Hong Kong. It seeks to serve as the legal educational link between China and the world.

Scholarships
Hong Kong Maritime Law Scholarship Scheme
Starting from 2011-12 academic year, a number of full scholarships are offered to selected students under the auspices of the Hong Kong Maritime Law Scholarship Scheme, which is funded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. These scholarships are available to students undertaking study in the Maritime and Transportation Law Stream of the LLM programme. They can be used to cover the full tuition fee at City University or (as partial scholarships for undertaking Dual LLM Degrees at Swansea University and City University of Hong Kong). School of Law Postgraduate Scholarships
The School of Law Postgraduate Scholarships will support LLM, MA/LLMArbDR and JD students to participate in the one-month course together with the Chinese judges (who are also LLM students) in Columbia University during the summer semester. It will be used to cover the costs for the recipients to study at Columbia University including airfare, accommodation, local travelling and other expenses. There will be no cash award to the recipients. The Scholarships will include up to ten full scholarships or its equivalence. The value of each full scholarship in 2011-12 rates is about HK$50,500.

LLM Chinese Judges Prize
The LLM Chinese Judges Prize is donated by Mr. Andrew Liao, GBS, SC, JP to Chinese Judges students of the LLM programme. The Prize is awarded to one of the three best Chinese Judges students of the LLM programme on the basis of academic achievement. The value of award is HK$10,000 per annum.

Gu Ping’s Prizes for Chinese Judges
The Gu Ping’s Prizes for Chinese Judges are donated by Ms Gu Ping to Chinese Judges students of the LLM programme. Ms Gu Ping is a Partner, US Attorney, of Zhong Lun Law Firm. The Prizes are awarded to two of the three best Chinese Judges students of the LLM programme on the basis of academic achievement. The value of each award is HK$10,000 per annum.

Li Han’s Prizes for Chinese Judges in LLM Programme
The Li Han’s Prizes for Chinese Judges in LLM Programme are donated by Ms Li Han, Partner of Harden & Wells, to reward two outstanding graduates from the LLM Programme. Recipients are selected according to their eminent academic results. The value of each award is HK$10,000 per annum.

Mr. Raja M. Daswani Awards
Mr. Raja M. Daswani Awards are donated by Mr. Raja M. Daswani. The awards shall be awarded to five students of the Chinese & Comparative Law stream of the LLM programme. Recipients should have achieved outstanding academic performance in the previous academic year. Each recipient will be awarded a coupon in the amount of HK$3,000. The coupon is non-transferable and should be used exclusively for purchasing a suit from Raja Fashions Ltd.

The programme offers the opportunity to study law with students from all over the world. The student body is composed of law students, attorneys, Chinese judges, corporate executives and professionals from other law related disciplines.
