Entry requirements
The standard of applicants to Queen Mary is high. Admission is based solely on academic merit. The usual qualification for entry to the LLM programme is an undergraduate degree in law, or a degree with a substantial law content, of at least upper-second class Honours (or equivalent). Non law graduates with good honours degrees may be considered on the basis of excellent performance in professional qualifying examinations (for example the CPE and Bar Finals/Legal Practice examinations, or passed the solicitors’ qualifying examination), or exceptional experience that directly relates to particular specialist LLM taught courses.

For students with International qualifications, click here. If your country is not represented, please contact the LLM Administrator Sue Sullivan

Students whose first language is not English must meet the School’s minimum English language requirements for direct entry.

IELTS TOEFL IBTOEFL PTE Academic

You should bear in mind however that should your score be lower than our full requirement we may be able to assist you with pre-sessional language training (in the summer prior to the LLM). You should therefore provide a language score in good time. Details of our one, two and three months Professional programmes can be found here.

Critical Thinking and Writing in Law (in-sessional)
The Critical Thinking and Writing in Law programme is a specialized series of interactive lectures designed to improve your writing and research in law, while providing a solid foundation for you to prepare for and complete your exams and dissertations with confidence.
The Critical Thinking and Writing in Law programme consists of two distinct programmes, one each term:
• Term one, mainly for those with in-sessional conditions, will introduce students who are new to UK Higher education to the skills that will be expected of them at LLM level. Legal texts will be analyzed from a linguistic perspective and focus will be placed on raising students’ awareness and skill as regards expression, structure, and argumentation in English within their discipline.
• Term two has been designed for those interested in developing or enhancing their performance in exam and dissertation writing. Students will be given the opportunity to learn and practice the skills needed to succeed in examinations, and to work through the process of planning and structuring their dissertations. Students will be introduced to research methodology, and they will be assisted in the process of developing their proposals into well-structured dissertations.

Distance Learning LLM in Computer and Communications Law - January and August start dates

Taught by the Institute of Computer and Communications Law (ICCL) within the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, this Distance Learning LLM in Computer and Communications Law draws on the established strengths of CCLS in computer, e-commerce and communications law and associated topics within the Information Technology Unit.

Law as a subject is particularly suitable for online learning in that it is primarily text-based, so delivery of teaching materials is not restricted by bandwidth limitations. Teaching Computer and Communications Law online has the further benefit that almost all relevant materials are recent in origin and potentially available in digital format such as Lexis and Westlaw, combined with the Blackboard (WebCT) course teaching platform for additional materials, bulletin board tutorials, chat room discussions and student assignments. Course modules will be delivered to students on CD-ROM and some of these will include audio and audio-visual presentations. You will not be required to have access to a local law library, or to have Internet access beyond a basic dial-up modem connection to the World Wide Web.
