Jing Jing Meng
LLM Maritime Law 2008
After completing her LLM Maritime Law at Southampton University’s School of Law, Jing returned home to China, where she works in a law firm, advising clients from the shipping industry.
“At Southampton, emphasis is placed on the development of academic and personal skills, which really shapes the way you think and helps you to focus on your career plan. Lecturers and Tutors are all experts in their fields and many are qualified Solicitors and Barristers, so you have the best academic help available. If you are motivated and want to have a great time, as well as leaving with a well respected degree, the supportive and friendly environment of the School of Law could be ideal.”
Christine Vella
LLM Maritime Law
"My name is Christine Vella and I am a University of Southampton alumni. I joined the LLM programme for the year 2007–08 and chose to specialise in Maritime Law. Life here in Southampton was great. I made plenty of friends from all over the world and we did many things together such as going out, having dinners together and even studying together! Therefore I can say that life from a social aspect could not have been better. However, I also have to say that this year was not only good from a social point of view because this year also brought with it great success in terms of career – I found a job and it all started from the University of Southampton...
"In March, the University organised a Career Fair. Many big companies and Law firms attended to this event and we got a chance to speak to very experienced, professional people – our potential future employers, as it was the case for me!
"I had gone around a great deal of stands and spoke to many people. After a few weeks, one of the companies got interested in the University’s students and offered an internship which I had applied for. I got the internship and from there my ’job adventure’ started ... After I completed the internship, I was called for an interview and after that I was contacted again – I got a job offer!!!
"Therefore, all I can say to the new students is – enjoy your student life, manage your time between studies and relaxation time, and do cherish the events which the University organises since something very good could come out of these very important events!!"
