Postgrad Solutions Global LLM Study Bursaries (2 x £500)PGS logo

Postgrad Solutions Ltd is offering two Global LLM Study Bursaries each to the value of £500. They are open to students of all nationalities, and aim to help students fund their chosen Master of Laws programme. To apply for a Global LLM Study Bursary, you have to be a member of the free-of-charge Postgrad Solutions Student Service, and you have to be starting any LLM degree anywhere in the world in 2009.

Payment of the award will be made direct to your institution, and will be discounted from your fees as appropriate. You may only apply for a bursary after you have accepted an offer of a place at your chosen institution. Closing date for all entries is 1 August 2009.

BPP logoBPP Law School

Director of LLM Programmes’ Scholarships (LLM in Commercial Law and LLM in International Business Law)

Value: Up to £1,000 for home students and up to £3,000 for international students following the LLM in Commercial Law or the LLM in International Business Law.

Number of funded places: Generous – the actual number will depend on the calibre of applicants.

Eligibility requirements: All applicants are considered on an individual basis for suitability.

Application instructions: To apply for a scholarship, please complete the application form at the BPP Law School website.

Additional information: As there are a high number of scholarships available, it is recommended that you apply for a scholarship at the same time as applying for the programme. BPP guarantees that you will know if you have been awarded a scholarship before you have to accept your LLM offer.

LLM in Professional Legal Practice Scholarships

Value: Up to £1,000 at any of BPP's four Law Schools

Number of funded places: Generous – the actual number will depend on the calibre of applicants.

Eligibility requirements: To apply for this scholarship, you must:
                                              •  start the LLM in 2008
                                              •  not have a training contract starting in 2008
                                              •  outline a clear financial need
                                              •  have done your LPC or BVC at BPP.

Application instructions: To apply for a scholarship, please complete the application form at the BPP Law School website.

University of Dundee, School of Law

Scrymgeour Scholarships

Value: Up to £4,250 for international students from the African continent, China, India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Pakistan and Vietnam; up to £3,000 for international students from other countries; up to £1,750 for UK/E&U students.

Number of funded places: Dependent on quality of applicants.

Eligibility requirements: Awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

Application instructions: Applicants should send a letter of motivation to Mrs Fiona Clark.

University of Glasgow, School of Law

Funding for nationals of Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein

Value: £2,500

Number of funded places: Unlimited.

Eligibility requirements: EEA nationals who are not EU nationals.

Additional information: Restricted to nationals of Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein and to be set against the overseas fee charged for the LLM, which will be approximately £9,400.

IE Law School

Jose Maria Cervelló Scholarships

Value: Between 50% and 100% of the total fees of the September/October 2008 or February 2009 intake of the selected programme.

Number of funded places: Four to five.

Eligibility requirements: 
•  Law degree with outstanding academic results
•  Admission to one of the following IE Law School programmes: 
   –  Master of Laws (LLM) in International Legal Practice 
   –  Master en Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas (LLM)
   –  Master en Asesoría Fiscal de Empresas (LLM)

Application instructions: Candidates should send the following documentation to the admissions department of IE Law School by 10 June 2008, for the attention of Camila Uribe:
•  A description of the candidate, including how he/she fulfils the scholarship requirements and the reasons he/she considers him/herself to be the ideal candidate for the scholarship.                                  
•  Letter of Admission to IE Law School for one of the following programmes: Master of Laws (LLM) in International Legal Practice, Master en Asesoría Jurídica de Empresas (LLM), Master en Asesoría Fiscal de Empresas (LLM)
•  Two letters of recommendation by people in an academic or professional environments who can testify to your worth as a candidate for the scholarship.
•  Statement of income for the previous year. Students with no income in the previous year will be required to present a statement of income for the head of their family.

In order to obtain the scholarship, candidates must have successfully completed the admissions process for an IE Law School programme.

Additional information: The Scholarship Committee will base their decision on whether or not a candidate should receive the José María Cervelló Chair scholarship on the extent to which his/her profile fits the selected programme, academic records, and his/her financial position.

IE Foundation Scholarships

Value: Scholarships cover up to 20% of the programme's fee.

Eligibility requirements: Admission to one of IE Law School programmes.

Application instructions: Submit the following documentation to financialaid@ie.edu:
1. CV/Resume (1 page). 

2. Two essays (each min. 250, max. 500 words) on the following topics:
2a. In your opinion, how important is management education to the development of
your region over the next 10 years?
2b. Why should you be granted a scholarship? What responsibilities come along with
being a scholarship recipient? Please include a financial plan explaining how you intend
to finance the programme and living costs, if applicable a) with the scholarship award
and b) without the scholarship award. 

3. Obligatory documents:
3a. Last three payslips of the scholarship applicant or the person who will be paying the
programme fees.
3b. Bank statements from the bank his/her payslip is paid into, signed and stamped by
said bank. 

4. Recommended documents:
4a. Bank statements and/or latest tax return of the applicant or the person who will be
paying the programme tuition fees.
4b. Any other document that could provide further evidence of the fulfillment of the
criteria on the basis of which the scholarship is awarded.

* In order to clarify any aspect of the scholarship application, IE will decide the need of
a further interview by phone or in person subsequent to the sending of the required
documentation.

Leiden University

LUF Scholarship

Value: €10,800 – for one academic year and cannot be extended.

Number of funded places: Six.

Eligibility requirements: 
• The applicant has been admitted to an English language Masters programme of Leiden University on the basis of prior education outside the Netherlands.
• The applicant must have obtained excellent results in his/her previous studies and be for instance in the top 10% of students in his/her programme.
• The applicant’s studies in the Netherlands must constitute a deepening and broadening of his/her previous studies in the home country.
• Second year Master students are eligible only if they are enrolled in a two-year programme, and if they have not received a LUF Scholarship for their first year.

Scholarship for Master’s of Advanced Legal Studies

Value: €5,000

Number of funded places: Three.

Eligibility requirements: Candidates will need to fulfill the entry requirements for the relevant programme, and will need to submit an additional essay.

Application instructions: Mention the scholarship name and the deadline of the scholarship clearly in a cover letter which accompanies your application for admission. All the information on how to apply for a degree course is available online.

Additional information: All six scholarships are awarded on academic merit.

NTU logoNottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University

Masters Bursaries (available for ten NTU LLM programmes)

Value: The bursaries are equivalent to up to half UK/EU fees, and are available to UK, EU and international students.

Number of funded places: One.

Eligibility requirements: The bursaries are competitive, and will be awarded on the basis of:

1. Evidence of the pursuit of excellence in individual performance and / or experience outside education.
2. A written statement indicating the anticipated academic and career benefits you will receive from studying this programme.

The panel will not take ‘hardship’ issues into account when coming to their decision. Successful candidates may receive a fee reduction of up to half of their fees. Awards cannot be accepted in addition to any others offered by the university or associated agents.

School of Law Competitive Scholarship

Value: Full fees (HEO or OS).

Number of funded places: Varies.

Eligibility requirements: Offer of a place for one of the School’s LLM programmes in 2008.

Application instructions: To apply for one of these scholarships, you must mark clearly on your application form that you wish to be considered for a School of Law bursary in your 'personal statement'. Please note we are only able to enter an applicant into the competition for these bursaries if their complete application arrives at the University before 31 May in the year they wish to be admitted.

Additional information: Awarded on academic merit only. No separate application required. Applicants for the above awards will be notified at the end of June if they have been successful.

Centre for Environmental Law Scholarships

Value: 1 full HEU fees scholarship and 1 £1,000 bursary.

Number of funded places: Two.

Eligibility requirements: Offer of a place on either the LLM Environmental Law or MSc Law and Environmental Science.

Application instructions: All students holding an offer for one of the above programmes on or before 31 May will be automatically considered.

Additional information: Awarded on academic merit only. No separate application required. Applicants for the above awards will be notified at the end of June if they have been successful.

School of Law Non-Competitive Scholarship

Value: 20% reduction in OS fees.

Number of funded places: Varies.

Eligibility requirements: Offer of a place for one of the School’s LLM programmes in 2008.

Application instructions: The School of Law currently offers scholarships to the total value of 20% reduction in fees to graduates of the following institutions: 
•  Peking University 
•  South West University of Political Science and Law 

To qualify for one of the above scholarships you must have been offered a place on one of the School of Law’s Taught Masters programmes, and show original documentary evidence that you are a graduate of either university at the time of your registration.

European Union ENP scholarships for the LLM European Union Law

Value: Up to €20,000.

Number of funded places: Up to ten.

Eligibility requirements: Among the key eligibility requirements, applicants must be a national of and resident in one of the following countries: Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Russia, Syria, Tunisia and Ukraine.

Felix Scholarship

Value: Approximately £22,500 which covers fees at the international rate and provides a stipend of around £12,500.

Number of funded places: Up to seven.

Eligibility requirements: Among the key eligibility requirements, applicants must be either Indian nationals, or are from sub-Saharan Africa, and who are under 30 years of age, have at least a First class in their first degree.

Additional information: The competition is open to students’ applying for either taught Masters or Research degrees. The deadline for applications will be in February or March 2009 for entry into programmes starting in October 2009.

University of Strathclyde

Scotland–USA Graduate Scholarships

Value: £2,000

Number of funded places: Three.

Eligibility requirements: The scholarship will be awarded to three US citizens who are normally resident in the USA, and who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a postgraduate Master's programme at Strathclyde. Applicants should have already been given a conditional or unconditional offer, and should have firmly accepted that offer or intend to do so. Please note that the scholarships are not available to US citizens who have already completed their undergraduate studies at an institution in Scotland.

The scholarships will be awarded broadly on the basis of academic merit with candidates requiring a GPA of 3.5 or above from a recognised American university. 

Application instructions: 
A completed Scotland–USA Graduate Scholaships application form (click here to download the form as a PDF) together with a copy of your degree transcript and two academic references, should be received at the International and Graduate Office by closing date 1 July 2008 in order to be considered for the scholarship. Scholarship winners will be announced in mid July 2008.

Tilburg University, Faculty of Law

Tilburg University Scholarship Programme

Value: Partial tution waiver + €5000 (for living expenses)

Number of funded places: 50.

Eligibility requirements: Excellent international students who are admitted to a Master’s programme at Tilburg University.

Application instructions: Normal application + motivation letter + two letters of reference.

Additional information: Deadline for application: 15 April every year for starting the master’s programme in August.

University of Westminster, School of Law

LLM International Commercial Law scholarship

Value: £20,000

Number of funded places: One.

Eligibility requirements: You must be from one of the Eastern European accession countries or the former Soviet Union states and hold an offer for the full-time LLM International Commercial Law.
