About the School of Law
The School of Law is centrally located within the immediate environs of Oxford Street. With over 1,400 students, the School of Law is one of the largest in London offering a broad academic and professional course portfolio. As well as the diversity of courses offered, the School of Law prides itself on the strong collegial relationships between staff and students. All students will have a personal tutor who can advise about academic requirements, student welfare, career opportunities, course structures and regulations. The learning resources, including library and IT facilities, are excellent at the School of Law. The School’s central location offers exceptional access to political, legal and financial institutions. The large concentration of solicitor’s firms and barrister’s chambers in central London provide numerous employment openings in the legal professions.
Postgraduate courses
LLM Corporate Finance Law
Corporate finance law is essential for lawyers, bankers and financiers who are keen to develop professional skills in fund raising, deal structures and transactional management. How to raise capital through the markets is now necessary knowledge for legal and financial practitioners. With a broad and deep knowledge of corporate finance issues, you gain an enhanced and pre-eminent qualification for professionals working or planning to be engaged in a technically demanding and dynamic global industry.
LLM Dispute Prevention and Resolution
This course embraces a wide range of public, private and domestic issues relevant to the prevention and resolution of conflicts and disputes, including justice and risk. The course includes negotiation, litigation and arbitration, and also the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes such as mediation and conciliation.
LLM Entertainment Law
This course combines both academic analysis, and commercial practice elements of entertainment law. The diverse nature of entertainment law allows a number of specialisations to be followed, with key underpinnings being the issues of contact and intellectual property. The course will suit graduates from a law background, or from a non-law background that have significant relevant experience.
LLM European Union Law
This specialist programme in EU law aims to equip you with a deep, critical knowledge and understanding of EU law as well as specific areas of this unique legal system. The variety of options will allow you to follow areas that are of most academic and professional interest to you. One of the aims of this programme is to develop your critical analytical skills and your ability to apply EU law in everyday domestic and judicial practice.
LLM International and Commercial Dispute Resolution
This law course takes a broad approach to the study of substance and procedure, order and disorder, uncertainty and risk, and justice and injustice in the public and private international and commercial spheres. A primary focus is on the laws, customs, rules and practices that are relevant to potential and actual conflicts and disputes.
LLM International Commercial Law
A strong understanding of International Commercial Law is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after attributes in a legal professional. With the growth in international trade and commerce, law firms, business enterprises and governmental organisations place a very high premium on graduates with commercial law skills. The LLM at the University of Westminster offers the student an opportunity to explore and study this very exciting and intellectually satisfying area of law.
LLM International Law
This specialist international law course develops an innovative focus on contemporary legal and political issues in the international community. It takes an interdisciplinary approach to international law, exploring both social science and legal perspectives. The diverse range of subjects mean it is appropriate for students from a range of subject backgrounds, including law, social sciences, humanities and international relations.
LLM Legal Practice
This course enables you to make further use of your Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice. It will interest LPC graduates wishing to enhance their qualifications and practitioners wishing to gain a more in-depth understanding of the principles underlying their daily work.
Teaching and research
The small size and interactive nature of our classes provide a supportive and participatory approach to learning and scholarship. The School of Law has established an excellent record of success in teaching and research and has a vibrant research base in a number of distinct areas. We have eight professors and were awarded a 5 in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise.

All courses are offered full and part-time, with the exception of the LLM Legal Practice which is offered exclusively part-time.
Entrance requirements
Candidates will normally have a good honours degree or the equivalent in an appropriate law, social science or humanities discipline. However, consideration will be given to mature applicants who lack standard qualifications but have significant professional experience in a relevant field. International students are encouraged to apply, and will be required to produce evidence of a good standard of English (minimum IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL of 600 (paper)/250 (computer)/92, with 20 in reading and writing (internet)). The admission process will not, except in exceptional circumstances, be based on interview.
Professional courses
Graduate Diploma in Law (CPE)
This is an intensive one-year conversion course designed for non-law graduates of any discipline or overseas law graduates who wish to qualify as either barristers or solicitors.
Legal Practice Course (LPC)
This Legal Practice course (LPC) is the compulsory vocational course for intending solicitors. The course has recently been awarded six ‘commendable practices’ by the Law Society (the highest grades achievable by an LPC provider).
