IE Law School

‘We train global lawyers’

The University and the Law School IE Law School
IE Law School was founded in 1973 by a group of entrepreneurs, and has quickly risen to the top of the international business school rankings. IE is consistently ranked among the leading European business schools.

Alongside its business programs, IE has some thirty years of experience in graduate legal education. Of interest to international students are the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Legal Practice, and our Executive LLM Program in partnership with Northwestern University School of Law.

Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Legal Practice
This LL.M. program combines coursework in legal and business areas with a broad offering of international electives. The program is structured in three trimesters, plus a pre-program and optional exchange semester with one of our partners in the USA, Latin America or Asia.

You may choose all your classes in English, or a bilingual English-Spanish program. The English track focuses on European and comparative law along with international transactions, whilst the bilingual track devotes more time to domestic Spanish law.

The IE Case Method requires you to complete more than 500 practical case problems, each one of which requires you to solve a range of legal and business problems and then draft the documents needed to achieve the objectives of your hypothetical client.

This is a full-time program which runs from late September until late July. All classes are held in Madrid.

Entry Requirements

  • First degree in law (LLB or equivalent)
  • Application form + 2 letters of recommendation + 3 essays
  • GMAT, LSAT, or IE Admissions Test
  • Personal interview
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English and/or Spanish

IE – Northwestern Law Executive LLM Program

IE Law School and Northwestern University School of Law have created a pioneering program for the experienced lawyer who wants to earn the LL.M. degree from a top US law school, along with a Certificate in Business Administration from IE, without having to take a year away from work.

Content centers on the US legal system, as well as its application in European practice and beyond. Participants also study business administration subjects vital to international lawyers at this stage of their careers.

The Executive LLM Program runs from September to May, and all classes are taught in English. The program offers candidates maximum flexibility in the form of two structural options.

The first option combines three on-campus periods (each roughly two weeks long). Two periods are held in Madrid, and the third period is held at the Northwestern Law campus in Chicago. In between the on-campus periods, participants continue their studies on line.

In the second option, participants complete the first two on-campus periods in Madrid, along with the intervening on line period. Then participants travel to Chicago for the entire Spring semester in residence at Northwestern Law.

Whether on campus or on line, all courses in the Executive LLM Program are taught by faculty of distinction from both Northwestern Law and IE Law School.

Entry Requirements

  • First degree in law (LLB or equivalent)
  • At least three years of professional experience
  • Application form + personal statement + letter of recommendation
