The School of Law at Leeds attracts postgraduate students from around the world and has a thriving postgraduate community, with around 150 taught postgraduate students and 40 research students. The world-class reputation of the School is reflected in our 5a grade in the last research assessment exercise and the School has been delivering top class research and teaching since it was founded in 1899.
Students at Leeds benefit from being part of the largest legal community outside of London and from established links with national and international law firms.
Law at Leeds
Postgraduate programmes are available at MA, LLM, MPhil and PhD levels, centred around our four main research centres: Business Law and Practice; Criminal Justice Studies; European Law and Legal Studies; and International Governance.
New programmes
The School is launching a number of new programmes this year including the LLM European Law; LLM International Intellectual Property Law; LLM in International Corporate Law and LLM in Banking and Finance Law.
LLM conversion/senior status programme
This is an accelerated, fast-track, two-year, full-time postgraduate degree for students who don’t have an undergraduate law degree and who wish to pursue a legal career in England and Wales.
Twelve-month programmes
The School of Law offers LLM/MAs in Criminal Law, Criminal Justice, Policing Studies and Criminology, International Business Law and European & International Business Law. It also offers LLMs in European Legal Studies, International and European Human Rights Law, Cyberlaw, International Trade Law, International Law and Insolvency Law.

Both the School and the University have an abundance of experience admitting and successfully teaching students from countries around the world, and can provide expert guidance on admission requirements. With around 5,000 students from outside the UK studying at the University, student support services are excellent. With pre-departure briefings in many countries, meet-and-greet schemes at local stations and induction programmes on arrival, we do everything we can to help new students settle into university life. The University also provides a comprehensive range of welfare and support services to assist you during your time at Leeds.

If you are a single student from outside the European Union, the University will guarantee you a place in University accommodation, provided you return your accommodation application form and your deposit before the relevant deadlines.
