New LLM programmes planned for 2009
Middlesex University’s Law Department is launching several new LLM options to begin in September 2009.
These programmes will be validated in Autumn/Winter 2008 and full programme details will be published on the web at www.mdx.ac.uk/pglaw.

The new programmes are expected to be:
LLM Minorities and the Law – Our new Head of Department, Professor Joshua Castellino helped establish one of the world’s most respected programmes in Human Rights Law at the National University of Ireland, Galway. At Middlesex he joins a group of academics with their own substantial experience in human rights, migration and minority rights scholarship.
This programme includes topics such as vulnerable groups and the law, immigration, discrimination, international human rights, international organisations and the globalisation of labour and trade (some topics are studied as optional modules).

LLM Employment Law – Middlesex has two professors in employment law who are well-regarded throughout the UK. Graduates of this programme will acquire a very marketable specialism to help develop their legal or business career.
This programme includes topics such as recruitment and termination of employment, discrimination in employment, international human rights, problems in EU law, international dispute resolution and corporate social responsibility (some topics are studied as optional modules).

LLM Business Law – Complementing our well-established programme in International Business Law this programme has more of a UK and European orientation covering business obligations, corporate social responsibility, EU law, employment law, globalisation and media law and intellectual property (some topics are studied as optional modules). The programme is designed to assist graduates in finding high level employment within the profession or business.

LLM Research Methods – a specialist legal research methods programme designed as preparation for postgraduate research in the law.

Please note: all of these programmes will be available with exit points at postgraduate certificate (after two modules) and at postgraduate diploma (after four modules and without doing the dissertation), and many of the modules will be available to be taken individually if you do not want to enrol on a complete programme.

Applicants should normally have at least a second-class honours degree in law awarded by a UK university, or an overseas equivalent. ‘I came to London to broaden my horizons and gain an international edge to my career. The Middlesex LLM trained me in the commercial aspects of trade law and I completed a dissertation on software patenting.

‘I have now started work at Fox Mandal Little in Mumbai, one of India’s largest and most prestigious law firms. It was very competitive getting a job here, with a challenging application process, and I am very grateful for my time at Middlesex as I believe my career success is down to such expert and capable teachers.’
