LLM in UKHi,
I have done my LLB from India and am presently working as Assistant Manager Legal in an IT company. I have two years of experience of working in law firms in India during my LLB and two years as in house lawyer in the current company. In my current profile I am mostly into IT contracts and also IPR and little bit of complianance. I am planning to do LLM from UK but not sure whether it would be useful. I dont intend to pratice in UK or even work in a law firm, but would surely like to work in some MNC as a in house lawyer. Before I apply to any university I want to be sure whether it is worth spending so much on a LLM in UK. I really want to enhance my knowledge in my field. Does anyone have an idea whether a LLM would be useful for working as a in house lawyer in UK? And which LLM program would be most suitable for me? Hope to hear from you soon. Cheers, Deepti
Re: LLM in UKDear Deepti,
I assume that you are interested in IT law, so that I find out two Universities offering IT law program. University of Strathclyde: Information Technology and Telecommunications Law: This Master’s degree equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute significantly to the formulation and application of law in the information society. It examines a diverse range of key themes including information security, privacy, intellectual property, telecommunications, e-commerce, internet governance and access to public information. Aberystwyth University: Taught LLM The Department offers the following taught LLMs: LLM in Information Technology Law LLM in International Business Law. The taught LLM has been carefully designed to provide students with the opportunity to combine instruction and examination in specialist subjects of their choice with the completion of a piece of research into a topic of special interest. The courses are open to graduates from the UK or overseas, and also to those with relevant professional qualifications and experience. These taught courses involve attendance at a series of special small-group postgraduate seminars in each of the modules chosen. The emphasis is on active student participation through student presentations, discussion and group work. Students are assessed in each module (by assessed coursework and oral presentation). Following the successful completion of the taught element, students are required to submit a dissertation. The normal period of full-time study is 12 months, with attendance at the taught element between September and May and completion of the dissertation in the period June to September. Should they wish to do so, students may take an additional six months to complete the dissertation.
Re: LLM in UKhello dere,
As we're on this topic can anyone guide me as to where would be the best options in the UK (preferably London) to pursue an LLM in either Commercial, International Commercial or International Relations Law? Also if one has a lower seconds degree with 5 years working experience what is the posiibility of being accepted?
Re: LLM in UKHi there,
I have heard that Kings and QMUL are pretty good in this field. LSE and UCL are v strict with their entry requiremts but I think both these instituions look at applications a bit more open mindedly with work experience and passion for the subject as long as acaedmic calibre is there too. Hope this helps. Good luck
Re: LLM in UKhi daren
tanks for the advice i really appreciate it ironically i have been considering all 4 of those universities and especially LSC where i know that the entry requirements are strict just wondered though should i also apply to out of london uni's where the entry reqts would not be as strict? eg do u know anything about Kent? thanks again!!
Re: LLM in UKKent is a really good Law school. I have a friend who did a LLM there 3 years ago. They have 5 rated resaerch department and are well recognised by lots of UK and global Law firms I think. He got a good job after studying there anyway. He also said the taeching staff are very supportive and he quite liked being out of London. The train into London from Canterbury is a bit slow though when I used to visit him!!! Have you applied for one of the bursaries on this site? They have good info on here for scholarships. If so have you heard yet?
Re: LLM in UKHi Daren
Yup Kent looks impressive not to mention gorgeous location! I am actually still "uni-shopping" just to make sure I apply to the right ones and i get the inpression appliations haven't really opened up quite just yet... The thing is though i've got folks in london so I was looking at the cost saving factors gor applying there. Yet out of london uni's seem so appealing! As for bursaries, don't you need an acceptance first before u can apply? If not plzz tell me so i'd be updated
Re: LLM in UKHave you considered going north a bit? Edinburgh is both beautiful and has an excellent IT LLM through the SCRIPT Centre at the University of Edinburgh. http://www.law.ed.ac.uk/ahrc/teaching/l ... nologylaw/
If you want a place outside of London where it will not only be less expensive to live but you will also get a great deal of hands-on time with the staff, you should definitley look at Edinburgh. The students there are hosting a huge student-run conference in the spring and there is also a dedicated e-journal run by students, SCRIPT-ed. Best of luck with your applications!
Re: LLM in UKThanks for your advice. I will check out the link.
