Summary

AAU provides academic guidance and admissions counseling to academically qualified students interested in the self-study University of London LL.M. Programme. The LL.M. programme is open to students who have already obtained a first degree; a legal education is not a requirement for study.

The University of London has more than 54,000 students worldwide studying one of more than a hundred different degree, diploma and certificate programmes. Former students and alumni include seven Nobel Prize winners, leaders of Commonwealth countries, government ministers, renowned authors, judges, and business leaders.

The LL.M. programme allows students to choose from more than 30 different specializations or to obtain a general studies degree. While students take only four courses during their span of studies, there are more than 40 different offerings to choose from. Due to the nature of the self-study programme each student may focus upon the area of their particular interest, arrange their studies around their work and home commitments, and finish in as little as one year or take up to five.

The LL.M. has assessments twice per year. Each of the four courses is divided into four modules with each module having a 45-minute written examination. There are no oral exams or dissertation. Students may study the entire course, all four modules, at once or a few at a time.

While LL.M. courses will not be instructed at AAU our staff is able to provide programme information, guidance and application information to students based in the Czech Republic.

AAU has also designed a Study Support Package for independent learners. The LL.M. Study Support Package allows local students access to the library, AAU internet access, a quiet dedicated study room one evening a week from 18:00 to 21:00, on specific weekends on, Saturdays 9:00–17:00 and Sundays 9:00–12:00, and copying and printing services.

The cost of the study support package is CZK 10,000 per semester with the semesters being Fall (September through January) and Spring (February through June). AAU may offer additional services to the LL.M. students, such as attending/auditing the LLB sessions on offer, individual consultations, or tutoring; these are subject to individual arrangement.

To apply for admission, prospective students should have an undergraduate degree, it need not be law, and meet the English language requirements.

Upon registration with the University of London students will be provided with course specific study guides, reading materials, access to valuable legal databases and other library resources, and an on-line forum for each course.
