Georgetown Law and HEC Paris Offer Two New Dual Degrees

Georgetown LawHEC Paris and Georgetown Law are joining together to offer two new dual-degree programs. The Master of Business Administration/Master of Laws (MBA/LLM) and the Grande Ecole Master in Management/Master of Laws (MiM/LLM) will be open for application in the spring of 2016, with the first classes scheduled to begin in September 2016.

To apply for the MBA/LLM program, applicants must have a degree in law and at least three years of professional experience. They will spend the first year studying core components of HEC’s flagship MBA, and the second year will be spent at Georgetown Law, studying an LLM program (general or specialized).

Graduates of this new postgraduate course will receive both the MBA degree from HEC and the LLM from Georgetown.

Applicants of the MiM/LLM need to have a bachelors degree in law. They will then spend their first year at HEC studying core and elective courses for the first year of the MiM, then their second year will be spent at Georgetown Law studying an LLM (general or specialized). Upon successful completion of this postgraduate program graduates will receive a Grande Ecole masters degree in Management and Business Law from HEC as well as a Master of Laws from Georgetown.

Georgetown Law Dean William M Treanor explains, “We know that there is a demand for lawyers with an in-depth understanding of business and management principles. Partnering with one of the world’s leading business schools is an exciting way for us to meet this demand and provide a cosmopolitan education in law and business to students from around the world. The MiM/LLM program will bring some of the world’s top business students to Georgetown. The MBA/LLM degree program will allow lawyers to get an MBA from one of the world’s great business schools and an advanced degree from Georgetown Law in fields such as tax law — in the same two-year period that they would need to get an MBA alone.”

The Director for International Affairs at HEC Paris, François Collin, says, “Students come to HEC with a variety of academic backgrounds, and we look forward to expanding the number of lawyers who will bring their previous legal experiences and perspectives to their study of business here.”
