The Olympic Spirit in Legal Education

The College of LawWith the London 2012 Olympic Games in full effect, the Olympic spirit is rapidly spreading across the nation. Although law schools don't have their Olympic Games, the College of Law has made sure to bring the Olympic spirit to the world of legal education by enabling talented law students to compete for „Gold“.

The College is starting a new scholarship scheme symbolically named „Gold Awards“ to help the best students who want to undertake the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and enter the legal profession in financing their studies. Currently, there are 60 scholarships on offer for the GDL commencing this September or in January 2013.

Sarah Hutchinson who is Board Member at the College's Business Development says: „High calibre non-law graduates are always welcome to enter the legal profession because they bring the talent that helps the profession to flourish. We understand that during the time of economic crisis switching the field and entering the world of law may be a difficult decision, and that is why we have introduced the Gold Awards scheme to ensure that the most talented students in all disciplines are constantly entering the profession”

Each Gold Award will help the successful applicant to undertake the GDL by covering £2,000 towards the full tuition fees. If the applicant decides to study the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) upon the completion of the GDL, he/she will receive further £1,000 towards the full tuition fees.

To be eligible for the Gold Awards, applicants must hold a First Class Honours undergraduate degree or a Master’s degree with distinction and be accepted  by the College of Law to undertake the GDL commencing this September or in January 2013. Further, applicants must not be sponsored by a law firm or a barrister chamber although those who are partially sponsored are still eligible for the award.

Students wishing to be considered for the scholarship must e-mail gdlgoldaward@lawcol.co.uk for further information. The deadline for entries is August 24th.
