Introduction
The LLM programme at the School of Law, City University of Hong Kong aims to provide an intensive study of issues and practices relating to Chinese and Comparative Law, International Economic Law and Common Law. Students may also choose to follow a general course of study. The programme offers a variety of courses, including in particular a series of video-link lectures with the Yale Law School.
Video-link lectures by renowned professors
At our Law School, you can receive the same education as in the leading law schools in the world. In Semester A 2008–09, the School invited Professor Michael Reisman (Myres S McDougal Professor of International Law, Yale Law School) to teach a course entitled 'Selected Problems in International Investment Law' through video-link facilities. More LLM courses will be offered by distinguished professors from other well-known law schools, eg School of Law at the Columbia University and Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford.
Cooperation with Supreme People’s Court of China and Columbia Law School
CityU School of Law has signed an exclusive agreement with the Supreme People’s Court of China and National Judges College to provide advanced legal education to Chinese judges. Under the agreement, 30 Chinese judges will be selected to study the LLM programme at CityU every year. During their study at CityU, they will have the opportunity to study at Columbia Law School for one month, which includes a study trip to Washington DC to visit the US Supreme Court and the US Department of Justice.
GLOBAL GATEWAY®
The programme is a GLOBAL GATEWAY® programme, which provides students with an international edge to their legal education by offering them the possibility of dual LLM degrees and an exchange programme with leading international law schools.
Student body
The programme offers the opportunity to study law with students from all over the world. The student body is composed of 30 judges from Mainland China, lawyers, law students, corporate executives and professionals from other law related disciplines. The alumni network offers the potential of enriching your educational and professional opportunities.
Co-operation of Renmin University of China
Students may also concurrently apply for the LLM programme of the Renmin University of China (taught in Putonghua), which is offered through City University of Hong Kong. They will be exempt from a maximum of four courses of the Renmin University LLM programme should they have completed the designated City University LLM courses.
