Professor Duncan FrenchProfessor Duncan French has acted as an advisor to the United Nations Environment Programme. He is Professor of International Law at the University of Sheffield and holds degrees from three other major university law schools in the UK. Professor French teaches on the LLM in International Law and our LLM students benefit from his expertise. His principal research interests are the international legal implications of sustainable development, international environmental law, international development law, and general international law. Professor French is Director of the Sheffield Centre for International and European Law and Deputy Director of the School of Law.

In addition to his responsibilities in Sheffield, he is the co-rapporteur of the International Law Association Committee on International Law on Sustainable Development, for which he organised a major conference on Global Justice and Sustainable Development in Sheffield (August 2009). He is also a founding member of the European Society of International Law interest group on international environmental law.
