Executive M.B.L.-HSG – An alumni‘s perspective
Benno Casutt, Attorney at Law, E.M.B.L.-HSG, is working as ‘Regional Compliance Officer Asia Pacific’ for ‘Zurich Insurance Company Ltd’ in Hong Kong.
I still remember the moment when I first heard about the University of St.Gallen’s E.M.B.L. program. A friend of mine, who had just completed the final exams, told me about it and I envied her for both the fun she seemed to have had and the great international learning experience she went through, while keeping up her ambitious daily work routine and busy family life.
A short while after that, my company suggested that I enroll into the program as well. I then paid some more attention to the details of the E.M.B.L. program, the class schedule, the modules, the high calibre professors, etc. and it did not take much time for me to come to the conclusion that this is exactly what I wanted to do!
Ever since, I believe this was a perfect decision for me on both a professional and personal level. It clearly broadened my horizon for various aspects of the international business law on a truly global scale. Of course, the flying classroom is an essential element to the internationality of the program and the learning experiences I made on the trips to renowned universities in cities like Tokyo, Shanghai, New York and Austin are simply invaluable.
After the successful completion of the program, I felt the desire to extend my exposure to international markets and so my company relocated me to our regional office in Hong Kong – I am convinced that the successful completion of the E.M.B.L. helped me tremendously to achieve this change. Due to my modules in both Japan and Shanghai, I was able to easily connect with my teams in those cities – and immediately earned their respect for attending classes at their famous universities. Thanks to the preparation work for each module I was able to gain a great deal of awareness for the local culture, customs and particularities that help me now in my every day work.
But what really matters and what will last much longer than all the legal and economic knowledge gathered throughout the 18 months, are the friendships and connections I was able to establish and that is why I am so thankful for this great experience.
