Deadline approaches for February 2010 intake at UWC
The 30 October 2009 deadline for applications for February 2010 entry to LLM programmes at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) is fast approaching.
UWC is located in the Bellville suburb of Cape Town, South Africa and was established in 1960. A dynamic future beckons as the University strives to remain a vibrant institution that offers excellence in teaching, training and research.
The UWC Law Faculty’s mission is to offer quality legal training and carry out quality legal research within the context of the demands facing the different branches of the legal profession in Southern Africa, the challenges of changing socio-economic conditions, and the exigencies of global trends. The Faculty offers an LLM programme for students with a law background, as well as an MPhil programme for students from other disciplines interested in a law-related and interdisciplinary field of postgraduate study.
Students may also choose from three different modes of study:
- Mode 1 refers to a postgraduate programme consisting of four modules as well as a research paper.
- Mode 2 entails only two modules and a required mini-thesis for completion of the programme.
- Mode 3 refers to an LLM or MPhil programme where no modules are followed and students are required to complete a full thesis.
A wide variety of modules are on offer each academic year, and different specialised programmes are also available as an alternative to a general postgraduate qualification at masters’ degree level:
- International LLM Programme in Trade and Investment Law
- LLM in Transitional Criminal Justice
- LLM in Local Government
The Faculty will consider applications for either the February or the July intake of each academic year. The deadline for applications for February 2010 entry is 30 October 2009. The duration of the programmes is one year and the language of instruction is English.
