BPP Law – an introduction
BPP University is famous for becoming the first publicly owned UK company with the power of awarding degrees. This happened in 2007, and since then BPP University has prided itself on its education approach, which is academically rigorous and embedded in a professional application.
Apart from their Master in Laws (LLM) program, BPP University also offers other law and business-related courses, such as postgraduate courses to pursue a profession as a solicitor and a barrister – the SQE and the LPC.
BPP LLM program content
The BPP Masters of Law (LLM) course offers students an opportunity to develop their skills in a specialised area of law and study legal practices relevant to the modern financial and business world.
Students can choose from a 12-month full-time course or a 24-month, part-time course – the start dates for these courses are different in different BPP centres as illustrated in the table below.

BPP Law School faculty
BPP Law School has a wide range of modules/electives that help students gain knowledge of their field of interest while being extensively supported by their learning materials and learning support. Each module is taught with a combination of lectures and seminars.
At BPP Law School, the students are expected to study in advance of their classes to allow for more invigorating discussions and insightful learning experiences.
The Master of Laws course stipulates around 40 contact hours for each module, in addition to 20 hours of independent learning to be able to fully participate in seminars and successfully complete the mandatory assessments that are set within the first few weeks of each term in the BPP LLM.

Application criteria
To be eligible for the for LLM at BPP University, the student must fulfil their academic entry requirements and the English language requirements.
The entry requirements to study the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and LLM Legal Practice Course at BPP University Law School include:
- Undergraduate law degree with a minimum of 2.2 or above
- Or non-law degree with a minimum of 2.2 or above, along with a PGDL, GDL, CPE, etc.
- Applicants can also have similar qualifications such as CILEx
- The fast-track LPC requires a 2.1 at degree level for consideration
Students should also be able to communicate effectively in English in an academic setting. Therefore, those whose first language isn’t English needs to fulfil BPP’s English language requirements, which can be proven via a range of English language tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, Trinity ISE and Oxford International English Language Level Test.
LLM fees, funding and financial aid
The tuition fees for the LLM course at BPP and they can be subject to change each year and may slightly differ from centre to centre.
BPP Holborn
For the academic year of 2022/2023, the BPP’s London Holborn centre has tuition fee of £12,420. The course is eligible for postgraduate funding of up to £11,836, more information about which can be found here or by calling 03300 603 100.
BPP scholarships
Applicants can apply for a range of scholarships at BPP Law School, these include full and partial fee awards apportioned to students from traditionally under-represented backgrounds. These scholarships mandate the following:
- The applicants must have submitted an application to study at the BPP University and to the scholarship, before the deadline outlined
- The applicant must have achieved a minimum of a 2.1 result or equivalent in their undergraduate degree, this might be reviewed on a case-by-case basis with evidence of mitigating circumstances
- The applicant must not hold a full scholarship from another source
- The applicant must not have previously received a scholarship from BPP University with a value of £2,000 or more
Payment options
Apart from postgraduate funding and scholarships, BPP University also allows students an option of interest-free payment plans, giving them the chance to pay the tuition fees in up to 16 instalments.

Law courses at BPP University are divided based on career trajectory and 98% of BPP University's postgraduate students have been employed in highly skilled occupations within 15 months of graduating.
If an applicant is interested in pursuing a profession as a solicitor, BPP University offers the Solicitor's Qualifying Examination (SQE) and Legal Practice Course (LPC).
BPP University also has two courses for prospective barristers the Barrister's Training Course (BTC) and Law Conversion Course (PGDL).

The Bristol centre is just off the Queen Square and has nine audio-visually equipped classrooms – this is the fewest number of classrooms of any of the study centres.
