Suffolk University, Law School Located in the heart of downtown Boston, Suffolk University Law School is the fifth-largest law school in the United States.

Suffolk Law’s expansive curriculum features a wide array of specialty areas, with nationally ranked legal writing, dispute resolution, and clinical programs. As a student, you have access to a distinguished, diverse, and supportive faculty. As for our home, Sargent Hall, is classically-designed, technologically advanced, and allows ready access to Boston’s vibrant legal community.
Suffolk Law offers a general LLM, an LLM in Global Law and Technology, and a post-LLM degree (SJD). The Legal English Institute is also an option for those students whose first language is not English.

General LLM
If you want to tailor your legal skills to a particular field or emerging area of law, consider the general LLM from Suffolk.

Create your own track or choose from Suffolk’s recognized areas of expertise, including dispute resolution and civil litigation, business law and financial services, biomedical and health law, intellectual property, international law, or labor and employment law.

The general LLM program is 24 credits and can be completed in 10 months (full-time) or 3 years (part-time). You may also choose to participate in the LLM internship program in the US or abroad.

Global Law and Technology LLM
Suffolk's Global Law and Technology program was the first of its kind in the US.

Create your own professional program from a wide range of courses, or choose from one of theses four specializations:
  • Biotechnology and Health Law
  • Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law
  • International Law and Business
  • US Law and Legal Methods

If you are seeking a career in academic law in the US or abroad, you may pursue a Doctor of Juridical Science.
Under the supervision of a committee chair and two advisors, candidates must complete the following 24 credits over a residency period of two consecutive semesters:
  • SJD workshop (6 credits)
  • Elective courses (10 credits)
  • Research credits (8 credits)
Before the end of your third year of study, you will be expected to produce a dissertation that constitutes a substantial and valuable contribution to legal scholarship.

Legal English Institute
Boston Suffolk Law is one of the only law schools in the US that offers a special language program exclusively for LLM students.

This three-week, intensive program introduces international students to the US legal system, while assisting in the development of the specific language and academics skills needed to be successful at an ABA-accredited law school.

Topics cover note taking, grammar, writing, public speaking, legal vocabulary, and using US legal materials.
The Institute is open to Suffolk students, as well as those accepted to other US law schools.
