Temple Law’s LL.M. for Foreign-Trained Lawyers is designed for lawyers and law graduates seeking a deeper understanding of U.S. law and the U.S. legal system. Temple’s LL.M. for Foreign Trained Lawyers
Temple’s 24-credit LL.M. program combines foundational U.S. law courses with flexible electives and can be completed in one year. LL.M. students take courses alongside U.S. J.D. students, providing opportunities to learn within the broader Temple Law community.
Build Your Course of Study
Students complete two required courses:
· Introduction to the U.S. Legal System
· Legal Research and Writing

Application Process
Applicants to Temple Law’s LL.M. Foreign-Trained Lawyers must have earned their first degree in law (such as an LL.B.) outside of the United States to be eligible to apply.
Application Deadline:
· Fall admission: March 15
· Spring admission: October 15
Extensions may be available upon request. Applicants may apply through LSAC or through our website.
Application Requirements:
- Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL 88, IELTS 6.5, or Duolingo 115),
- Official law school transcripts or proof of passage of the home country lawyer license examination,
- Two letters of recommendation
- Personal statement
- Resume or CV
- $50 application fee
All documents must be submitted in English, with certified translations provided for non-English documents.

Temple Pre-LL.M. Academy: U.S. Legal Foundations
A two-week summer program for international law students and recent graduates. Students learn about the U.S. legal system and American legal education while participating in legal and cultural activities in Philadelphia.
Temple Law’s Summer Abroad program in Rome: A four-week summer program at Temple’s Rome campus, where students take courses in English and can earn up to six ABA-approved credits.
Scholarships & Affordability
