IELTS: an Overview

IELTSIELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an international recognised test that is used by universities worldwide – it is currently used in over 130 countries – to measure the English skills of international students. IELTS tests a student’s ability in listening, writing, reading and speaking to ensure that they have the necessary skills to study in the English language.

One of the main reasons for the popularity of IELTS is that it is recognised by over 9,000 organisations including governments, academic institutions and employers worldwide. It is accepted by most of the universities, colleges and higher education institutions in the UK. In fact, a good IELTS score is recognised for immigration purposes by Australia, Canada and New Zealand as well as the UK.

There are over 900 test centres and locations worldwide – and more than 2 million IELTS tests were taken last year.

More information about IELTS including the locations of all the test centres is available on www.ielts.org
