Summary

The course will provide you with the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge of an area of chosen legal interest. It will encourage you to challenge current intellectual thinking whilst developing an advanced knowledge and ability to analyse your selected specialist area of law directly. The degree is suitable for qualified solicitors and barristers who are looking to enhance their career prospects. It is also suitable for students who have completed the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course (formerly the Bar Vocational Course) but have not yet secured a training contract or pupillage.

The topic of legal research may be one arising from academic interest or a legal issue pertinent to your current expertise in legal practice. On this masters course you will be given the opportunity to design a bespoke qualification where you will critically analyse and understand complexities that can arise as well as challenging and informing global and comparative perspectives. The course is underpinned in many areas by internationally recognised research in addition to emerging research and advanced scholarship. It will challenge your thinking and stimulate your academic aspirations in the further specialist study of law.

The Masters in Law degree is awarded after the successful completion of the dissertation module incorporating advanced research methods. You will be supported by a supervisor and personal tutor during your studies on the course.

It may be possible to complete your Master of Laws top-up in 9 months.
