Why Law at Leeds?
One of the leading law schools in the UK, Leeds School of Law has been providing high quality legal education since 1899. In that time, we have seen our graduates become prominent judges, politicians, academics and successful legal practitioners. With over fifty dedicated academic staff, we can boast legal expertise in a diverse range of topics affecting global societies today. Our students benefit from studying in the fastest growing legal sector in Britain according to the Financial Times.

As a department we are ranked 8th in the UK for Law according to the Times and The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and 5th in the UK for Criminology in the Guardian University Guide 2019. In addition, law has been ranked 1st in the Russell Group for student satisfaction according to the National Student Survey 2018.

Our First-Class Learning Environment – the Liberty Building
Since January 2011, the School of Law has moved into a new purpose-built £12m home. The Liberty Building incorporates high quality teaching and research space, a moot court incorporating the latest technology and a law and community centre to support the School's pro-bono work.

What our Students Say
“A research degree is a significant commitment – one that’s likely to test you like never before. But it’s also been the most fascinating and intellectually stimulating experience of my life. Undertaking a PhD brings with it so many opportunities. Grab them, enjoy them – and make the most of them!”
Sean Butcher, PhD Law

“The outstanding support offered by the members of staff was a key reason for my decision to return to the University to study the MA by Research. I am greatly appreciative for the personal development I have achieved whilst studying the course. My journey has made me much more confident in my abilities and I now feel particularly enthused to embark upon a PhD in the near future.”
Maariyah Islam, MA by Research

“The range of books and resources available is simply phenomenal. The sessions on essays, research technique, job interviews, and dissertations are a great opportunity, especially for students who have never been exposed to these kind of assessments before.”
Rochelle Nazareth, LLM International Banking and Finance Law
