New LLM in IP & Business Law launched

Maqsut Narikbayev UniversityThe World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has launched a new Joint Master of Laws (LLM degree) in Intellectual Property (IP) and Business Law – this is the first graduate program in the Central Asian Region to be delivered in English and Russian.

WIPO has launched this postgraduate law degree together with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Maqsut Narikbayev University (MNU), with the first cohort starting in September 2024.

The LLM in IP and Business Law is WIPO’s 18th joint masters to be offered through the WIPO Academy’s University Partnerships Program. Speaking about this new LLM degree, WIPO Director General, Daren Tang, said, “In today’s knowledge-driven economy, the WIPO Academy supports professional IP and business skills development in all regions. This 18th WIPO Joint Masters Program, in collaboration with the Government of Kazakhstan and Maqsut Narikbayev University, will help bring IP closer to people, businesses and communities, enhancing IP’s strategic role in business development and preparing future generations for career success.”

The LLM degree will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to make strategic decisions towards effectively monetising IP assets in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It will be delivered by leading experts from academia, the private sector and government, and will cover topics including trademarks, patent law and IP asset management.

The LLM in IP and Business Law is a 12-month program that will be delivered in-person at Maqsut Narikbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan. The government of the Republic of Kazakhstan is offering at least 10 scholarships each year to Kazakh nationals studying this LLM degree.

The new Joint Master of Laws (LLM degree) in Intellectual Property (IP) and Business Law is open for registration until Friday 5th July 2024.
