Annie Tisshaw is studying a Master of Laws (LLM) at The University of Law.

Annie was delighted when she found out she’d been awarded a Global LLM Study Bursary, saying, “I was so happy when I found out I won this bursary!”

She continues, “There are so many different funding options out there and sometimes finding bursaries or scholarships can be very difficult because often the criteria for applying is very specific – I loved that this one was so open for everyone to apply!”

The 27-year-old British student chose The University of Law (ULaw) for her postgraduate studies because it is the largest law school in the UK. It is also where she studied her initial law degree (GDL) and she was keen to stay at the same provider.

ULaw’s LLM program appealed to Annie due to the dissertation option it offers, she explains, “The route I chose was the dissertation route. This is because you get to decide your own topic area and thoroughly research it. The topic I am writing about for my dissertation is rape conviction rates and exploring why they are so so low (1%!).” She wants to become a lawyer and specialise in the subject area of her dissertation, saying, “I want to contribute to creating a society where women do not have to experience the current criminal justice system after experiencing sexual violence.”

Annie is really enjoying her course to date, saying, “So far this has been my favourite course I have studied. This is mainly because it is all independent study.” She continues, “As someone who is dyslexic, this is helpful as it means I can go at my own pace. Also, I am reading, researching and writing about an area of law which greatly interests me.”

She is also very pleased with her choice of institution, enthusing, “I have made great connections at my university with people from all over the world. This is both with the staff and other students.”

Annie returned to university after taking some time away from education and found our websites – LLMstudy.com and Postgrad.com – very useful in helping her make the transition back to studying. She says, “Postgraduate study can be really daunting, whether because of costs, other commitments like work, or because, like me, it meant going back into studying after having some time out. Postgrad.com really helps to answer any questions or worries you may have. Also, to let you know that you are not alone.”
