Miami Law Online LLM Information Session 21 April 2020

Miami LawThe University of Miami School of Law is hosting an information session for foreign-trained lawyers about the study and practice of law in the United States on Tuesday 21st April 2020, at 6pm EST.

This online event will answer common questions from foreign lawyers, including:

  • Can I use my law degree to practice law in the United States?
  • What is the Bar exam, and what do I need to do to take it?
  • What is the difference between an LLM and a JD?
  • If I want to practice law in Florida and I only have an LLM, what are my options?
  • What are the LSAT and the TOEFL?

During this online session, information will be offered on the different degrees offered by Miami Law including:

Masters of Law – which allows the foreign lawyer to sit for the bar in some states, with the New York Bar being the most common
Masters of Law with Intensive Legal English (LLM + Intensive Legal English), for those who need to improve their proficiency in legal English
Joint JD/LLM – a joint degree that allows its graduates to sit for the bar anywhere, including Florida.

A team of experts from Miami Law will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice, including Assistant Dean for International and Graduate Programs, Director of the International Graduate Law Programs, and Lecturer in Law Carmen Pérez-Llorca; Associate Director of IGLP International Graduate Law Programs, Lecturer in Law, and LLM/JD Academic Advisor, Yasmina Assis; and IGLP Program Manager, Jian Gou.
