Criminal justice expert joins Strathclyde’s Centre for Law, Crime & Justice
The Centre for Law, Crime & Justice at the University of Strathclyde has been joined by one of the world’s most eminent thinkers in Restorative and Criminal Justice.
Professor Tim Chapman – who is sought after worldwide as an expert, trainer and speaker in this field – is joining the University of Strathclyde as a Visiting Professor. He is currently the Chair of the Board of the European Forum for Restorative Justice, and is a leading thinker on youth and criminal justice.
Speaking about his new appointment Professor Chapman says, “I’m delighted to be joining such a world-class team of experts at Strathclyde and thoroughly looking forward to developing my contribution in teaching, research and training.”
Director of Strathclyde’s Centre for Law, Crime & Justice, Professor Cyrus Tata, adds, “We’re absolutely thrilled that Tim is joining us. It’s been a privilege to work with him in recent years and so I know first-hand the extremely high regard in which he is held in scholarly, practice and policy communities not just in the UK, but across the world.”
Professor Chapman was a key architect of the internationally acclaimed practice guidelines for the Restorative Youth Conference scheme in Northern Ireland, and has trained more than 60 prison officers, as well as politically-motivated prisoners, in restorative practices to help move them away from violence. His academic work has helped set national standards for probation and criminal justice social work in England, Wales and Scotland.
Professor Chapman will contribute to the teaching of the University of Strathclyde’s LLM/MSc in Criminal Justice & Penal Change, and will also lead training in Strathclyde’s Restorative Justice & Practices Essential Skills Course.
