Graduate Law Conference at Kent Law School to address crisis, sustainability and justice
The ninth annual Graduate Law Conference at Kent Law School, University of Kent will address themes of crisis, sustainability and justice.
This year’s conference will take place online on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th July 2021. Its focus will be on the role of law in defining, responding to, and sustaining crises (broadly conceived), and its related potential in securing sustainability and justice. The Keynote speaker will be Dr Sam Adelman, Reader in Law at School of Law, University of Warwick.
The conference is organised each year by student members of the Graduate Conference Committee and offers an excellent opportunity for postgraduate taught students and research scholars to exhibit their work, practice presentation skills and receive feedback.
Speaking about the themes of this year’s conference, the Committee says, “The 2020 Covid-19 pandemic and the continuing humanitarian, economic, and political crises have worsened global economic and social inequalities and presented an opportunity to revisit law’s role in securing justice and sustainability: What are the legal and policy challenges to a sustainable future? Are the legal and policy responses adequate and sustainable? How efficient is the law in securing justice for the marginalised?”
Papers are welcomed from postgraduate students studying social sciences and humanities subjects, researchers and academics. The Committee is also keen to hear from early-career scholars who may wish to showcase a research paper, a working paper/work-in-progress, or take part in the conference panels and debates.
Key dates:
- Monday 3rd May: deadline for submission of abstracts (250 words max) to: lawgradconference@kent.ac.uk
- Friday 14th May: notification of acceptance
- Friday 11th June: draft paper submission deadline
Full paper submissions will be considered for two prizes that are available: ‘Best Internal Paper; and ‘Best External Paper’.
