UCLA Law offers insights into LLM application success
An expert from UCLA Law has revealed some key ways to increase your chances of application success for an LLM program at a top US law school.
In the interview with a Turkish law blog, Assistant Director for International LLM Programs at UCLA Law, Tiffany Parnell, explains various aspects of LLM applications with essential advice and guidance, including what UCLA Law looks for in an LLM application, details some of the best LLM programs on offer at her law school, the distance learning provisions at UCLA Law and personal statement top tips.
Tiffany explains that successful UCLA Law LLM applicants need to have a strong academic record with a first degree in law, as well as strong English proficiency and an ability to articulate their goals. If they are accepted onto the UCLA Law LLM program, students will have the benefit of being able to customise their LLM program from a selection of specialisations – including Business, Human Rights, Critical Race Studies, and Media, Entertainment and Technology Law and Policy – in order to fulfil their own academic or career goals.
Speaking about crafting an LLM personal statement, Tiffany explains, “The best personal statements provide deeper insights about the applicant that can’t be directly gleaned from a resume, adhere to the parameters stipulated by the school and are well written with no grammatical errors. The personal statement should also be personal rather than a statement on what applicants may think a school wants to hear.”
Offering interesting information about how UCLA Law adapted to Covid-19 with online offerings, and how the pandemic is continuing to affect international LLM studies, Tiffany says, “Though we can’t predict the future, we are optimistic that current developments are paving the way for UCLA Law to make plans for engaging events and programming very soon.”
