Southampton Law School has strong research and teaching profiles in commercial and corporate law, maritime law and international and human rights law, and our LLM Master of Laws builds on this diversity of strengths. This LLM programme is designed to be highly flexible, allowing you to customise your degree to your particular interests and career plans, and mix and match from our wide range of modules.
The LLM Master of Laws programme will give you the specialized knowledge and practical know-how that will enable you to pursue a wide range of legal and non-legal careers. You will be able to tackle contemporary legal problems as well as complex legal issues arising from practical scenarios, to critically evaluate the principles of the areas of law you have chosen to study and their effectiveness. You will also develop your practical transferable skills, including the ability to conduct independent research, to analyse complex texts, construct arguments and communicate these effectively.
On this rigorous but exciting LLM programme you’ll gain the knowledge and professional skills required to advise, litigate and negotiate, based on a sound knowledge of the legal frameworks in areas that interest you. The course is completely flexible, enabling you to study subjects you are passionate about and that reflect your career aspirations. The LLM Master of Laws programme develops your practical legal skills required to advise, litigate and negotiate, within a module structure that allows you to shape your degree towards your particular interests.

An Upper Second Class Bachelor’s Degree in Law (or a degree with some legal components) is normally required, BUT account may also be taken of practical work experience or professional qualifications within a relevant field of study.
We welcome applications from international students.
Mature applicants without formal qualifications but relevant work experience are also encouraged to apply. Access to the internet, Word Processor (MS Word compatible) and an email address are also required; webcams desirable.
English Language Prerequisites: Band F, IELTS7.0 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
