Nottingham Law School unveils enhanced SQE preparation courses launching September 2026

Nottingham Trent University Law SchoolNottingham Law School (NLS) has announced a newly redesigned suite of Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) preparation courses at Nottingham Trent University aimed at maximising student success in the SQE assessments. These updates will begin in September 2026 and reflect the school’s commitment to providing robust, practical legal education to aspiring solicitors.

The SQE represents the centralised route to qualifying as a solicitor in England and Wales, replacing the former Legal Practice Course (LPC). It consists of two parts: SQE 1, which tests applied legal knowledge largely through multiple-choice questions, and SQE 2, which assesses practical legal skills. Preparation for these assessments is widely regarded as critical to exam success.

NLS’s newly structured courses have been developed to support students in every stage of their SQE journey. Key features include comprehensive online manuals, extensive multiple-choice question practice, and mock exams designed to closely resemble the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s exam conditions. These resources aim to build familiarity with the format and rigour of the SQE assessments while giving students confidence in tackling both SQE 1 and SQE 2.

In a significant change to the traditional pathway, NLS is also removing the dissertation requirement from its LLM SQE preparation option. The revised structure enables students to focus exclusively on the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the SQE assessments, rather than allocating time to an extended research project. This adjustment is intended to streamline study efforts and enhance outcomes for exam success.

The new offerings include full-time and part-time study options for both SQE preparation and combined qualification pathways (conversion courses and SQE preparation courses), allowing students to choose a format that fits their personal and professional commitments.

Prospective students can expect a blend of in-person and supported independent study, with access to specialist tutors and structured assessments throughout the academic year. The updated programmes reinforce NLS’s commitment to equipping future solicitors with the confidence and competence required to flourish in a competitive legal market.

Applications for the September 2026 intake are now open.
