Minnesota Law launches online summer English language & legal skills program

Minnesota LawMinnesota Law is launching an intensive online English language and legal skills program this summer for students entering their LLM program.

The Legal English Advanced Development (LEAD) program features an online-only portion before students arrive in the US. It will use the Canvas online classroom system to enable all participants to be in different time zones and work at their own pace, with most work done via submitting short video recordings and posting on discussion boards.

On campus – for the in-person portion – students will spend 20 hours each week reading then discussing, as well as visiting state and federal courts, the state Capitol, Federal Reserve Bank, law firms and offices, and other places in the Twin Cities legal community.

LEAD is an intensive legal English and legal skills program taught by Minnesota Law Professor Karen Lundquist for international students enrolled at Minnesota Law. It is not a grammar or ESL class. Instead, the focus is on the language and skills that students will need to survive and thrive in law school. LEAD is designed for incoming students who want extra preparation, resources, and support before they launch into the LLM program at Minnesota Law.
