BPP Law School launches a new masters business programme
BPP Law School is launching a bespoke masters business programme in January 2012 to give students the chance to graduate with a masters in business in just 15 weeks after completing their Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC.)
The Legal Services Act has lead to more competitive conditions in the legal professions, which means that lawyers will have to be more business savvy than ever. Therefore BPP Law School are launching a new business course for its graduates. From January 2012 BPP’s BPTC and LPC graduates will be able to study a 15 week business programme, and graduate with a masters in both law and business – the MA (Law with Business).
Chief Executive of BPP Law School, Peter Crisp, says, “New lawyers will have a distinct advantage if they can demonstrate real business acumen and grasp business practices and principles. For instance, I was recently speaking to a trainee who said he was called into a meeting and asked by a partner to give feedback on a business plan at short notice. Because he had learnt how to write a business plan at BPP, he had the confidence and understanding to know exactly what to say in the situation. It is just one way business skills are useful everyday to lawyers in practice.”
This postgraduate programme will enable its students to look at legal issues from a business perspective and frame their advice with a deeper awareness of the commercial context of their clients.
The MA (Law with Business) has previously only been available in collaboration with law firms for their trainees. January 2012 will be the first time the course will be open for all of BPP’s BPTC and LPC students.
This business programme costs £3,650 and is divided into three modules - with two taught modules covering business strategy, analysis, management and finance, and one based around independent research. The taught modules will be delivered from BPP Business School’s centre, next to the ‘Gherkin,’ in the City of London.
