Further recognition for the LLM degrees offered at Swansea by legal community
Since their introduction in 2000, the LLM programmes at Swansea have aimed at enhancing students' practical understanding in the realm of commercial and maritime law in addition to offering a sound academic background in these subject areas. To this end, strong links have been consistently established with the legal profession over the years.
Attracted by the international recognition of the LLM degrees, a leading international law firm, Ince & Co, has recently introduced an annual prize for the student who achieves the highest grade in the taught element of any of the LLM programmes. The winner of this year's prize, awarded in June 2009, was Xu Yan. Ms Yan is a graduate of Dalian Maritime University and has been encouraged to apply for a training contract with Ince & Co.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Rogan, a partner at the firm, commended the members of the School of Law at Swansea for the service they provide to the sector in delivering LLM degrees which are contemporary and practical.
Throughout the year, members of the LLM teaching team continued to offer a series of professional training courses for City law firms, as well as industry leaders such as BIMCO and BP. The success of these training programmes is yet another indication of the sector's approval of the academic expertise developed at Swansea in commercial and maritime law.
