Law and Globalization
The world is becoming more global, and the number of international corporations and organizations is constantly increasing. Given this trend, it is highly important that law schools educate lawyers who can respond to the challenges of globalization and serve those clients who operate within the international boundaries. Even for the lawyers who never leave their home country, it is highly likely that they will work with the clients from all over the world.
So far, law schools have been successfully dealing with the demands of globalization, and more and more institutions are offering high quality programmes in international law. Among the institutions offering International LL.M. degrees are the University of Edinburgh, London Metropolitan University, and the University of Sussex.
Another high quality institution joining the international family is the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, one of the most prestigious institutes for postgraduate education in the world. The Institute is introducing a new LL.M. in International Law that will commence in September 2013.
The course will focus on merging the theory and practice of international law and will enhance students’ knowledge through small tutorials lead by distinguished practitioners in the field. Students will further benefit from studying in Geneva as one of the leading international legal centres.
