New law clinic launched to benefit students and locals

University of East AngliaTo benefit its law students and members of the local community, the University of East Anglia has launched its own Law Clinic. This is a joint project by the staff and students of UEA as well as local legal professionals and external agencies.

Director the UEA Law Clinic and senior lecturer, Gareth Thomas, explains, “The Law Clinic project is very timely, coming ahead of the planned cuts to legal aid next year which will make legal advice unaffordable for many people in our community. Hopefully we can help them to gain access to justice by providing much-needed advice and support.”

He continues, “The initiative also provides unrivalled opportunities for UEA law students to gain hands-on experience of the law in action, thereby enhancing their education and boosting their employability.”

Locals will be offered free, or ‘pro bono’, legal advice and assistance by the students at the Law Clinic – check out the website to find out more.

Other universities in the UK that have created successful Law Clinics include the University of Strathclyde and the University of Kent.
