Penn State Law enhances its LLM program for international students

Penn State Law is continuing to enhance the English language skill-building initiatives for its LLM students - the purpose of this is to support the needs of international lawyers who are using English in their global legal practice.

Before the start of the LLM program and throughout the year, students at Penn State Law will have access to an array of communication skills training, including one-on-one training with an applied linguistics specialist to address individual language concerns.

Linguistics specialist at Penn State Law, Alissa Hartig, says, “I have a few roles in providing language support for LLM students, but one important part of my job involves working with individual students on a regular basis to improve their writing skills. I’m also on-call for students who have specific questions on their assignments or other language concerns.”

Alissa Hartig also co-teaches a writing lab with a J.D. teaching assistants and organizes weekly workshops with guest speakers presenting on topics such as avoiding plagiarism and writing effective resumes and cover letters – all geared toward improving written and spoken English.
