Strathclyde: new postgraduate opportunities

Responding to students' needs and key social and legal developments, the provision of innovative taught programmes is one of Strathclyde Law School’s hallmarks. 2009 sees the widest choice of courses ever offered, including two new LLM programmes in International Economic Law, and International Law & Sustainable Development to go live in September.

The new LLMs offer a cross-disciplinary and global approach to postgraduate study, offering the option of studying non-law subjects such as economics, international management, governance, enterprise and sustainability, alongside general law studies. At the heart of the new degrees is the ‘field’ dissertation - the opportunity to put knowledge and skills into practice, and to base the dissertation around real-world issues. These extend the current range of courses which include LLMs in Construction Law, Human Rights Law, and Information Technology and Telecommunications Law. LLMs are available in various formats including flexible evening study, or in some cases by online distance learning to suit the needs of professionals and geographically distant students. Next year, the School also intends to launch an LLM in Environmental Law.

An outward-looking focus pervades the research portfolio of the School which houses several research centres, including the Centre for Law, Computers and Technology, the Centre for the Study of Human Rights Law, and the Centre for Sentencing Research. The School is committed to expanding its PhD student population and has committed to doubling the value of its Campbell Burns scholarships to help attract the best candidates.
