ULaw is inviting applications for memorial bursary
At the University of Law (ULaw) a £1,500 award is being made available by the Tracy Kaye / Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP (BLM) Memorial Bursary, to help towards tuition fees for the Legal Practice Course (LPC), the vocational stage for intending solicitors.
The award is open to students who have accepted a place on the 2013 LPC at the York centre of the University of Law (ULaw), and can demonstrate that completing their LPC would be difficult without financial support. The award includes one week’s valuable work experience at the Leeds office of BLM.
The successful candidate will demonstrate, through their application, a commitment to a career as a solicitor with an interest in contentious legal practice. Applications should also reflect a focus on helping others through charitable or pro bono work, as well as a competitive winning attitude developed in a non-academic competitive environment.
The bursary was launched in 2009 by the BLM team in memory of their colleague Tracy Kaye, who lived in York and was a dedicated member of the firm, specialising in personal injury litigation, before her death in 2006.
Chris Coughlin, Senior Partner of BLM Leeds, said: “We are delighted to once again be working with The University of Law in offering this bursary to a prospective LPC student in memory of our colleague, Tracy Kaye. It is important that talented students are recognised and rewarded for their efforts and we look forward to reading the applications.”
Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP has 166 partners and over 1,300 staff and advises a wide range of commercial clients, operating from branches in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Dublin, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Southampton.
Paul Aber, Director of The University of Law in York, said: “This bursary gives talented and committed students, who may otherwise find it difficult to continue their studies, the chance to take the first step towards a career in the legal profession and we are once again delighted that Berrymans Lace Mawer is able to provide it.”
The University of Law is the largest provider of professional legal training in the world with centres in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Chester, Guildford, Manchester and York.
The deadline for applications is Friday 23rd August.
