University of Law teams up with BARBRI to help City lawyers
The University of Law, in partnership with leading US legal education provider BARBRI, has developed a range of ‘Financial Skills for Lawyers’ courses designed to sharpen the financial knowledge and skills of City law firm associates and partners.
The courses were developed in response to requests from law firms for further financial training to complement the University of Law’s offerings in this area.
Head of Business Development at The University of Law, Martin Smith, explains, “It is no longer enough for legal professionals to have good technical ability in the law. They also need to understand their clients’ business challenges in order to give the best possible legal advice, and the BARBRI Financial Skills course will help them do that.”
The Financial Skills for Lawyers course is just one of a range of joint projects being developed by The University of Law and BARBRI following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the two organisations. As part of this partnership, The University of Law will also introduce students interested in qualifying in the US to BARBRI’s bar review (exam preparation) courses held throughout the UK.
Martin Smith adds, “More of our students are expressing interest in working overseas. Through our partnership with BARBRI we can introduce them to market-leading training that will allow them to qualify as lawyers in the US, and expect to offer a host of other opportunities in the near future.”
BARBRI is well known in the United States for its bar review course, legal education products and professional courses. Thousands of US attorneys and foreign-trained lawyers interested in qualifying in the US have taken its bar review course over the past few decades, while its professional programmes for practising attorneys are developed to enhance their professional effectiveness and help them grow their businesses.
CEO and Chairman of the Board of BARBRI, Stephen Fredette, says, “BARBRI and The University of Law share a common goal of creating economic opportunities for legal professionals in domestic and international communities. We are committed to helping law students, legal professionals and employers meet critical goals around education, skill set development and certification.”
The University of Law / BARBRI partnership was launched on the 16th of April at The University of Law's flagship London Moorgate centre.
